T.A.G. explained

TAG or TAG Team, which I hear a lot and never EVER crossed my mind is short for my kids…

They all have the same initials – T.A.G.

And yes we did it on purpose. I Love it! It’s a love or hate thing, I’ve found. Some people think it’s cheesy, some think it’s cute. I think it’s ADORABLE!

Why you ask?

Well, I wanted my kids to have something tangible (yea, it’s not really tangible but you get my point, right?) to connect them. Something for them to feel ‘bonded’ and special. My biggest hope for them is to be close and loving to each other always, and especially once we are gone.

Also, it’s practical. Which I am practical. I can label anything with TAG and anyone else can still use it. I don’t have a bunch of clothes and things for my younger kids, with my older kids’ names on it. Believe me, if you’re kids aren’t in school yet, they want you to write their names on everything that accompanies them. I’d feel bad reusing things if this were the case. So, it works for us.

Anyway, I think names are unbelievably important. Maybe because I had such a hard time with mine. Maybe because I’m just overly protective of my kids. I certainly didn’t want to give them a disadvantage right off the bat.

So, each of our names were labored over for months and months…And narrowing it to certain letters didn’t seem to make it any easier. We did have lots of suggestions though, so that helped.

Anyway, that’s my story. Maybe you didn’t care, but now you know! :P

So TAG TIME is the time in my life that I am devoting to my kids.  It’s the period in my life that is about them and NOT me.  About doing what they need and what’s best for them.  For being the best mother to each of them.  It’s really just a place for me to spout off about them and me and us.  :)

And in case you’re wondering about them, here ya go! I’ll add some more info on their names and why we selected them soon.

Tailey Abagail  – Tailey is a variation of Bailey.  A name I love that had become much too common by the time we had her.  I flipped letters in front of it and loved the T in it.  We hadn’t decided on the first initial at this point. Jon was deployed for several months at the time and actually didn’t like it at all.  Each day when I called him, I asked how he loved it today.  It was fun and it was definitely her name.  Surprisingly enough, I really thought she was a boy and didn’t expect to use it at all.  Spending so much time on her name, should have alerted me to the truth. Abagail is an old name that I’ve loved for a long time. I do not like it spelled with the I.  I also enunciate it with the A.  As in ABA….  No one else may notice but I do!

Tate Alexzander – Alexzander was the first name Jon picked that I actually agreed to.  However, as a middle name only because it’s very common.  This name set the prescedence for the middle A’s and we never looked back.  Being that it was such an old name, used for centuries we tried to stick with that as well for the others. We (and I really mean me!) thought with the unique/newness of our other names, a solid old name would balance them well. Tate’s name actually originated way before Tate did.  When I was pregnant with Tailey, I had an ultrasound (just 1!) and Jon was not there.  We did not look (and actually could not see anyway!) so we didn’t know what gender our baby was.  Onward, I made copies of the ultrasound pictures and mailed them to Jon in the desert.  It was a disheartening thing to do, because we never imagined being separate for that experience.  Anyway, maybe because he was gone, I felt like she was a boy.  Looking at the u/s picture, Little Man Tate just popped in my head. We actually LOVED the name.  It went so well with Alexzander.  A shor,t easy name and a long, strong middle name.  When Tailey was a girl, the name was not destined to be.  But just a short time later (5 months!), we were pregnant again!  Again, I thought we were having a girl.  We struggled and struggled for a name…all we had was Tate Alexzander.  It’s all we needed though! If I would have opened my eyes I would have known, it was all I needed for a reason. Alexzander is spelled that way on my choosing (Jon doesn’t like it all that much) and actually wasn’t decided on until I was filling out the birth certificate.  I enunciate his letters as well.  And after spelling Tailey’s differently, this seemed to fit.  An old strong name with a little twist in the middle.  On the Little Man front, he’s often over the years been called Little Man but never Little Man Tate.  :)
